BSE 100 Index is designed to measure the performance of the 100 largest and most liquid Indian companies within the S&P BSE LargeMidCap. Index constituents are selected based on the free-float market cap.
The launch date of the S&P BSE 100 was January 3, 1989. The launch date of the S&P BSE 500 was August 9, 1999.

The index consists of the 100 largest and most-liquid Indian companies within the S&P BSE LargeMidCap. The index is float-adjusted, with securities that are highly liquid. The index covers more than 60% of Market Capitalization of total listed companies in BSE.

Designed to serve as both an investable index intended to reflect the
Indian economy, the S&P BSE 100 covers approximately two-thirds of the market cap of the listed universe at BSE Ltd.
Methodology Selection of stocks
Constituents must be members of the S&P BSE LargeMidCap.
Eligible companies must have an annualized trading value of at least INR 10 billion (at least INR 8 billion for current constituents) and no more than five non-trading days in the past six months.
Index constituents are selected based on the free-float market cap.
Eligibility
Eligible stocks are considered for index inclusion based on their final ranking. Rankings are calculated assuming a combination of market cap and liquidity.
The top 100-ranked stocks form the index subject to a 20% buffer on either side.
